Consumers have long had to choose between the visual appeal of wood and the practical benefits of plastic. Not anymore!
When it comes to mouldings and baseboards, Americans overwhelmingly prefer wood mouldings. While many acknowledge the benefits of using plastic mouldings and baseboards, such as their water-proof and eco-friendly nature, plastic moulding is considered to be a poor substitute when it comes to elegance, design and strength. Most plastic moulding, made of PVC, seems flimsy and is not aesthetically pleasing.
Wood is the gold standard for trims and mouldings but can suffer from moisture, chipping, and even termites. Customers prefer wood moulding because of its look and feel. However, wooden baseboards may swell and shrink due to changes in temperature, resulting in crushed edges of baseboards and gaps between the boards. On the other hand, plastic products are not only resistant to temperature changes but also termite-proof and waterproof. Unlike wooden baseboards, plastic baseboards can also be used in humid environments.
Santa Luzia baseboards are made from Polystyrene, a material that is different from PVC, the predominant plastic used in mouldings. While PVC is water-proof, it is not rigid and cannot be painted. Unique PVC Polystyrene is also more eco-friendly as it has a lower VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) Index. Since it is part of a traditional wood moulding export group, Santa Luzia has brought a strong aesthetic focus to what has been an otherwise utilitarian option. Santa Luzia’s plastic products are aesthetically pleasing and are of higher quality and durability than traditional PVC baseboards and mouldings. It is this winning combination that makes us unique.
